1968 RS Tach question

I recently added a original factory tach and console gauge cluster. I replaced the underdash harness with a factory harness for gauges , also changed the engine harness to a facory model for gauges. The console gauges work fine but I am trying to fiqure out how to hook the tach up. Are all the wires alraedy running to the tach or do I have to run a seperate wire. I am using a factory GM electronic dist. So what I cant fiqure out is are all the wires alraedy there since I have harnesses designed for gauges or do I still need to wire the back of the tach. Thanks in advance for any help. Richard

Unhappy Re: 1968 RS Tach question

if you got an engine harness for a console with gauges then there should be a brown wire near your coil. connect it to your coil on the neg side..

i didnt see anywhere that you got the plastic instrument circuit board for a tach gauge cluster.
did you?

Re: 1968 RS Tach question

yes, I changed the whole cluster , It is original with the correct circuit board for tach, so does this mean it should just be the brown wire to neg on coil or in mycase tach on electronic ign. Thanks

Re: 1968 RS Tach question

I believe on 68's, the tach wire was separate from the other harnesses, just a wire with a terminal on both ends that runs from the tach signal terminal on the cluster thru the firewall to the coil.
