battery disconnect/kill switch questions

I have a Race Jeep with a Hillbilly wire job.

When I turn the battery switch to the off position while the vehicle is running, the alternator still charges the system and the motor still runs. I need it to kill the vehicle and battery/fuel, etc.

I noticed that there are relay kits sold to correctly kill the motor but I'm cheap. Will running the battery charge wire from the alternator wire to the OFF side of the kill switch fix this alternator feedback? Or phrased more appropriately, will this hurt anything and why do they use relays?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram if the relays are the only way to accomplish this safely?

11.243 @ 117.81 thru mufflers and pump gas. Only trailered when I break something. OUCH

Re: battery disconnect/kill switch questions

Yes, it will, I'd just wire the alternator to the off side of the kill switch.
