Third (coil) wire mystery

I have three wires feeding to my coil; one positive, one negative and one yellow wire. The yellow wire from my harness that has pulled away from something. It is just hanging there. Where should this go?

The original engine (about to be yanked) is a 250 6 cylinder.

Thanks!

Re: Third (coil) wire mystery

I believe the yellow wire goes from the coil positive to the starter solenoid 'R' terminal and provides a full 12v to the coil when the starter solenoid is engaged.

Smile Re: Third (coil) wire mystery

This yellow wire was used on ignition systems that used points. The optical and electronic systems (Unilite, Pertronix, etc.) do not require this yellow wire. It's purpose is to supply 12 volts to the coil while cranking. It was originally used with systems that had the resistor wire running from the bulkhead connector/fuse panel to the coil.

Do a little research here and you will find this topic covered extensively.

Re: Third (coil) wire mystery

Thanks guys! I guess on my new motor (MSD ignition) I won't be using it.
