Unhappy 86 camaro really hard start

Hows it going me really really tired!

I was driving my car about a month ago and it would shut off after about 25-30 minutes
did this two or three times before finding the problem BAD COIL!

conclusion it was the ignition coil & ignition module

now during trouble shooting all the way up to replacing started great ever time!

after I changed them now its really hard to start, cranks fine, good spark

New Plugs, new cap, new rotor, new ignition module and coil, 2 new fuel pumps, new fuel filter, good compression
replaced a second time just to rule the fuel pump out
I just don't understand
I called the shop to see if they would take a look at it & he said it sounds like the module, I told him I just replaced he was stumped & said that he would hate to charge me the 75.00 if it was the module.

So last night I went up to the auto store & bought another module
but I really don't want to waste another 35.00 if this is not the problem
any suggestions?

Re: 86 camaro really hard start

Did you recheck your timing after changing those parts? It doesn't seem like they'd change your timing, but timing will affect startability.

Unhappy Re: 86 camaro really hard start

I didnt think timing would be affected by this (I will have to find out)
changing just those parts
thus would probably be causing it to act like S**T when its warm also hu?
I guess I will have to check that, Imma have to take it to a shop cuz I don't have the tools myself to do that.
Will let you know, If there are any other suggestions please help

Re: 86 camaro really hard start

in searching your previous post it seems that you didnt really need our help...in fact you really got dicky when posting that you thought you solved your problem...i`m pretty surprised that you would post back with another question, seeing as how none of us could help you no way no how...(a partial quote) ya know, virtually all the tc members are willing to help in any way they can, but you DO have to understand that while alot of us are very knowledgable, we cant always diagnose a car just by how you describe it...and NONE of us need to catch any crap for trying to help a fellow member out...that being said, check the firing order...(thinking you may have had to pull the wires off the cap to change the module)

Oh yeah, I remember Ryder. He left a flaming bag of poop in his last post here as I recall.

Re: 86 camaro really hard start

ya know somedays were the nicest soles living & we all have our bad moments in life, just a bad day of fustration & was pissed off at the world, so for that I do Apologize dnult & kustomworker. I was just being really ignorant to everybody that day, sometimes when you know the problem is staring you in the face & you know its not that or this & you can key it down but cant figure it out we'll that was me.

SO I DO WANT TO TAKE THIS TIME TO SAY THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!

Ignition coil checked and was bad (already known)
Ignition module check at the auto parts store five or 6 times & it was good & also purchased one (already known)
Replaced Distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and wires (already known)
Replaced the fuel pump (was suggested) Bought another for ****s & giggles
new fuel filter, replaced one gas line that had a crack in it (no biggie)
cut off the cataltic converter & replaced with strait pipe
Checked compression (aye O.k)
Had timing checked (GOOD TO GO)
checked the pick up coil both ways (within range)
So you might ask what was the problem of the no start???????????
well you might remember when I mentioned earlier when I took the modules up and had them tested (both right)? well the S.O.B must not of known what he was doing & blew the both of them
So after a hour of b**chin & complaining the manager gave me a new one, and guess what

She is running for 4 days now everytime firing, everytime starting, & even seems to have a lil more pep in her step. I am happy once again

So once again Thank you, TEAM CAMARO you have truly been a blessing!

No worries. We can all imagine what you went through RM. Been there done that. To us it's a challenge to guess the problem and we certainly hope we manage to help. But above all, we like to know what the real issue was - not because one of us gets to claim the prize, but also because we all learn from it - especially those who have yet to read it. This stuff will serve the public for a long time to come and we're glad you posted the final solution. Consider yourself welcome. It sounds like you've gained some experience.
