Cant find 12 volt source

I have a problem. My hei ignition is hooked up to a 12 volt source at the fuse box. I could not find a 12 volt source to power my distributor. My question is how can I find a 12 volt source that will be turned off when I turn the key to the off position? Thanks for the help. This is for a 1966 el camino.

Re: Cant find 12 volt source

Jerry,

You can tap into your fuse box. Get a voltage tester and check to see which fuse gets power when you turn the key on. The radio fuse should work fine. Or you can just use the blade marked "ignition" if it is not being used.

Re: Cant find 12 volt source

IGN power is what you need because it remains hot during a crank. Hopefully you can find a tap in your fuse panel. You can also replace the resistance wire from the firewall bulkhead connector with a copper wire and use that.

Re: Cant find 12 volt source

HI

I tried using the ignition blade but that did not fire the car up. The only one that did was for the battery full 12 volt and then to cut it off i had to pull wire off the battery blade. In the other post you mention the resistance wire. Is this the white wire with the fabric outside? If so how far do I cut this wire to replace it?

Re: Cant find 12 volt source

Is your car a 67?

I've heard of 67's not powering the ignition circuit while the car is cranking. Try connecting the yellow wire back up, both it and the new 12v wire to the BAT term on the hei.
