Extra wire

I hooked up my tail lights today on my standard 69 Camaro. There was an orange wire plugged into the fuel guage socket. It had a short extension on it with another plug . Anyone know what this orange wire was for, my guess is rear defogger or trunk light ?

Don't remember it being orange tho, or it having another connector on it.

Re: Extra wire

No I have the license plate light wire . This orange wire was plugged into the harness connector that the license plate light and fuel sending unit plug into. It was plugged into the fuel sending unit side of the connector and was about 3 feet long with a connector at each end and another connector at the bottom where it looks like you would plug the the fuel sending unit if you used the orange wire to run some sort of option.

The fuel sending unit only works with the ignition key in the on position......If this orange wire is linked to it, then it works off the ignition (switched)......An optional trunk light would provide power all the time so this wire has to be for an optional rear defogger.

Sounds like a trunk light. There's a little Y-harness that the trunk light plugs into:

Could be, but it should NOT be piggybacked onto the fuel gauge sender.

Almost sounds like he is describing the extension harness for a glove box light, wonder what it's doing in the trunk?
How bout a pic of this things?
