fuel pump relay

do you have to run a fuel pump relay for a electric fuel pump. Or can I just run the fuel pump to the iginition switch, with a inline fuse.

Re: fuel pump relay

You MUST use a relay. If you need relay wiring information I can help you with that. I have a diagram I can send you. It's really easy. You MUST use a relay to be safe and this goes for fuel pumps, electric fans, high current draw lights, etc... There is no automotive switch that is designed to pass that type of current, the end result will be failure if you're lucky, fire if you're not lucky.

Re: fuel pump relay

that would be a big load to put through the ignition switch, a lot more than it was meant to handle
you should run a relay

Re: fuel pump relay

The relay will also help your fuel pump maintain a decent operating voltage. If you run it off the ignitions switch, you'll likely overload the circuit and have serious voltage issues to contend with. Use the relay.
