1988 IROC Z-28 350 Camaro

Help.! I have an '88 IROC Z-28 5.7 TPI Camaro and the dash light(s) went out last week. Here's all I know at present: All headlights work except the right side high beam - replaced the headlight, but high beam still won't work? All tail lights work. (This may or may not be related to my main problem - the dash lights.) Inside the car, the "Service Engine Soon" light stays on all the time the engine is running. That didn't particularly bother me, as the car runs like a bat out of h***. However, the dash lights went out about a week ago, which makes it near impossible to drive at night. The right/left floor lights still work, & the dome light with the two reading lamps still work. All fuses under the driver side by the steering wheel are okay. I know next to nothing about cars, so my question is, are there other fuses and/or relays I can check first before the repair shop sees me coming with my wallet open?! (I don't own any meters to check things out, etc.) Thanks!!!

I'm going to start very basic here and ask if you, or anyone else, may have dimmed the dash lights down to nothing with the headlight knob ?? It could be the headlight switch has failed internally too. The dash lights work thru a fuse, so if they are all good, I doubt it's a short, but it could be a broken wire or circuit panel too.
Good luck....

I don't think this is it , but in my 85 IROC the harness inside the tilt column shorted and caused all kinds of misery.
