'67 RS headlight relays

Ok, so I replaced the circut breaker, and now both headlights close, but only the right one will open and close. Any body know why there are 3 relays, and how many do I need to replace to get the left light to open and close? Also which one ?

Go to this website http://www.gvtc.com/~rlaa/ and choose 1967-69 rs console gauge & headlight wiring diagrams. There is a trouble shooting guide in there that will help you to figure out which wires go to the correct relays and if your relays are good. I used it when I first got my 67. I ended up replacing all 3 relays and finally fixed it when I replaced the diode under the dash (available at radio shack). Check the wiring to the relays first, then look at the switches at the headlight. Make sure they are being hit when the door opens and closes. Also make sure they have a good clean ground.

Guys, along these lines... my 67 RS is missing the motors so the head light opening / closing is a manual event for now. But, my headlights still won't "light up" Should the headlights still work even though the motors are missing? The relays are there but I'll be dang if I know their condition... my guess is they are shot since they've been sitting up for over 20 years.

Frank, yes the lights should still work, regardless of whether or not the motors are there.

Try to open/close the door manually with the lights on/off. See if the door is binding—it may just need a nudge.

I was testing mine last night and the passengers side wouldn’t open. I moved it manually (just nudged it) and it started moving. I may have the arm too tight.

Thanks for the confirmation. Guess my wiring is shot somewhere between the switch and the headlight. I have a new front wiring harness in the bag, so I guess it's time to read up on that task.

The long shaft/bolt for the doors should have a plastic washer on each end to give some slide to the door. The washers allow the door to move. It doesn't take alot of torque when you bolt it all together. I would say just enough to make sure there is no slop. If one side works and the other doesn't then I would say you may have a bad motor. Mine did the same thing. It wouldn't open unless I gave it a little nudge. Eventually it stopped all together.
