HELP--starter problems. need to fire up motor tomorrow

Ive got a CVR protorque ministarter. its not new, but was working when the car was last running.

ive got the starter out of the car. and ive bench tested the starter:

negative jumper cable from negative terminal to starter "frame" and positive jumper cable from positve terminal to big lug on the side of the starter.

then i take my remote starter and connect it to the + battery terminal and clip the other end of the remote starter to the little screw terminal on the solenoid.

when i push the starter trigger, nothing happens.

but, if i take the positive jumper cable right to the starter motor, (by pass the solenoid), the starter gear turns, but doesnt stick out (they are supposed to stick out, right?)

so, what do i need?

thanks gentlemen (and ladies if youre out there)

Re: HELP--starter problems. need to fire up motor tomorrow

You'll need power applied to the big terminal on the solenoid. When you briefly short the powered big lug to the 'S' terminal, the bendix should kick out and the motor spin.
