Tach Connections / Test

Can anyone tell me what the connections are and required to test a tach.
Looking at it from the back of the case with the foil on, What are the conections I can make directly to the back of the housing and gauge.

My manual does not get that detailed. I know there are two nuts holding the gauge to the housing with insulators and probably a ground somehow.

How does it get it's ground?? Power?? Signal etc. I jsut recieved the gauges back from rebuild and he said they worked fine. They also worked OK for me until I removed them to clean up.

Appreciate any help - Thanks
