Bad cigarette lighter '69?

Can cigarette lighters go bad? I've tested voltage everywhere and it's open where it's supposed to be open, and short where it's suppose to be short. Full voltage, fuse good, etc. The VERY last thing (I can't check) is the element itself. I've even hooked it straight to the battery and tested it. Any ideas?

Re: Bad cigarette lighter '69?

those are both the things I was wondering about but I couldn't see how an all metal element or receptacle could go bad?
I'm buying a cheap lighter to wire up today and if that one works I know it's the lighter itself. Then I'll spend the $25.00 for the factory correct one....thanks again!

Re: Bad cigarette lighter '69?

There is very little diff between the cheap after market replacements and orginals
Other than the knob...and most of these push or screw off

I use my lighter all the time, the orginal element and knob is stored away and use a cheap aftermarket unit...If I need the orginal element/knob I just replace for the day.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

This is strange but true.Classic Indutries just called me Monday to tell me that the lighter housing that I order in June 1995 would be here in two days! And if I still wanted it because they had a list of over 1000 people on back order list.I said send it to me!

13 years on back order? I wonder of those 1,000 how many still have the car they wanted this for.

Re: Bad cigarette lighter '69?

I can't recall if the 1st gen lighter is any different then a 2nd Gen but the 2nd gen requires a Ground Washer with wire to frame. Sometimes the wire connector to this washer is weak and the lighter will not heat up.
