Fuel Gauge problems

Fuel Gauge not working on 67.I suspect a broken wire between gauge and sending unit. If I hook a new wire to sending unit in trunk and back of gauge to confirm this, which side of gauge do I hook it to? There are three screws on back of gauge. Thanks for any help.

Re: Fuel Gauge problems

It will go to one of the blades.... not the bolts.... There should be 2 blades.....

Re: Fuel Gauge problems

If you follow the traces on the PCB... the one that goes to the tan wire on the dash harness connector is the one you want.

Re: Fuel Gauge problems

Thanks Jim, That means I will have to pull the dash? I wanted to avoid that.

Re: Fuel Gauge problems

I ran the new wire to the passenger side of the gauge.(50/50 guess!)
From sender I get 20.2 Ohms
With all wires disconnected needle goes to 3 o'clock
New wire from gauge to ground in trunk, sw. on, needle goes to empty.
So why is this not working?

At least those 2 sentences = it's working.

Re: Fuel Gauge problems

I remember I had a problem with my fuel gauge!....I think it was something like if I turned the headlight switch on, the gauge worked normal, and if I turned the headlight switch off, the gauge would drop to empty or it could have been vice versa!....Anyway, the gauge wasn't getting a good ground at the instrument panel so make sure the panel is grounded properly!
