Question Engine runs in Acc position.

A little history. On my 69 I installed a new front light harness, engine harness, and added console gauges. I bought factory fit harnesses from American Autowire.

Everything works fine. But one day I went to shut the engine off and while turning the key I went too far and passed the off position and went on to the ACC position. The engine continued to run.

I am running a Dave's smallbody HEI. So I checked the power wire at the coil with a testlight and found that I have power there in the run and ACC positions. Nothing in the off position.

What could cause this?

Re: Engine runs in Acc position.

Sounds like something is feeding back. Try disconnecting your accessories one at a time and see which is feeding back to the ign side.

Re: Engine runs in Acc position.

Got it fixed! What had happened is when I did the console gauge install I ordered a conversion harness from AAW. Well you had to change some things around here and there and there was a pink wire that was supposed to be run to the Ign terminal at the fuse block, I did that. I can't remember what it was for GEN light or something, that was about a year ago it's been too long.

Well when I installed my stereo I had a friend helping me I got it all done except for hooking power to the stereo. I had to leave just as we were finishing up (had to pick-up the kids) so I asked him to install the power wire at the fuse block ACC terminal. Well when I came home he said he got it done and the stereo was working so I never questioned anything.

So I just went out and checked it out.The pink wire and the stereo power wire were both hooked to the IGN terminal. I put a test light at the coil so I could see it while inside the car. I put the switch in the ACC position and the testlight lit up.I unplugged the stereo wire and it went off. So anyway after putting the stereo wire on the ACC terminal it solved my problem.

If I could find the console conversion schematic I would see what that pink wire was that it was feeeding from.

Thanks.
