the stock coil wire should be covered in cloth- that's the wire that only puts out 6-8 volts with the key turned on.
if you find that wire, you could replace the whole wire up to the bulkhead with an HEI wire pulled from a car in the junkyard. it makes for a really clean install, and will only cost a couple of bucks, tops. of course, i don't know what kind of wiring bulkhead a 67 Camaro uses- GM switched the way they wired cars around that time- so you might need to put a different terminal on the wire.
