Tach Troubles - Need Advise

I have a 67 Sport Coupe. It had no original tach, but I've replaced the fuel guage in the council cluster with a repo original tach. The liturature says the same circuit board will work. I've also replaced the orginal coil with a HEI coil. I've heard lots of horror stories about frying tachs with HEI system and that they won't work correctly or calibrate correctly.

Anyone have any experience with this or know how to solve it if there is a problem.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Tach Troubles - Need Advise

Search "tach filter" here for a simple cheap filter that allows a factory tach to work with HEI.

Re: Tach Troubles - Need Advise

I had an hei ignition with a factory tach and did not run a filter. Had no problems. Changed to pertronix for a factory look.

Re: Tach Troubles - Need Advise

Anyone had any experience with an Accel Tach Adapter. When I purchased my OER Tach from Classic and told them I had a HEI distributor, they said I needed this Tach Adapter. But after reading the recommended link under the search "tach filter", I'm questioning what the tach adapter does - reduce the voltage from 12 to 9, filter the high frequency, both or something else. I've called and talked to the tech folks at Jegs, but didn't get much of an answer.

So, anyone know what it does? Anyone ever put this in? Would it eliminate the need to make the 'homemade' tach filter?

Thanks,

MK
