Exclamation HELP! All lights and radio work except dash and tail lights 85 cam

Thanks for the help. My 1985 v6 got in a wreck a while ago and now the dash guage lights dont work and the tail lights. The brake lights, headlights, high beams, and radio all work but not the tail lights or dash lights. I replaced the fuses under the steering column just in case and that didnt fix it. I havent checked the bulbs yet but figured they're probably fine if they both went out at the same time and the brake lights work. Could it be a headlight switch or relay, or circuit or something? Please help.

Most likely your rear wiring got pinched, pull the taillights out and look for the short. The dash lights and rear parking lamps run off the same circuit, it most likely blew the fuse again.

well i forgot to mention it was a front end accident, the lights still work though in the front, just the tail lights and dash lights dont work, could it still be the problem you mentioned?

Yes, could still be a pinched wire, just at the other end of the car It's also common for the wiring that goes under the carpet to get frayed/damaged, if the accident was enough to slam your foot against the harness this could do it as well.

Okay, i bought new bulbs and replaced the old ones but they still dont work. I also bought a circuit tester or whatever you call it to test the lights and when i tested at the circuit it was fine and when I tested at the taillight wire it worked as well, does that mean the actual socket is bad?

Get a Haynes manual from the parts store and read the electrical schmatic in the back.
I think taillight wire is brown? It would be the same wire to both sockets.
Since brake lights work, socket ground would be good.
Taillight fuse still good? take a meter or test light and see if voltage is present on the ATO fuse - see the little gray slits on top of the fuse? go there to measure voltage, then to the lamp socket, remove the bulb, and test tabs at the bottom of the socket. If voltage is there, then the tab is too deep in the socket and with power off, pry up alittle on the tab to touch the bulb.
There is a body harness running through the drvr rocker panel, under the door sill, I think. Connector from inst harness to body harness would be in the kick panel area.
Dash lights may need a firm twisting of the brighness control, rheostat may have a burn spot on it.

Reading the book, if all the above fails, the book will show the power route from the battery to the switch(es) and to the lights. Better than nothing.

Yes you definitely need a schematic-wiring diagram.

You can scan/post the diagram up on this site and we could help you further.
