voltage regulator mounting

on a 69 camaro does the voltage regulator have to be mounted on rubber inserts or does it matter if it is mounted directly to the core support?
thanks

Re: voltage regulator mounting

In my 69 the voltage regulator is mounted directly to the radiator support.

Re: voltage regulator mounting

Those rubber inserts act as shock absorbers to prevent the points from arcing if you hit a bump in the road....They are needed!

Re: voltage regulator mounting

68 used the rubber well nuts. 69 mounted directly to the rad support and did not need a ground wire.

Re: voltage regulator mounting

In addition to what BadBird said, I think the rubber mounts also isolated the buzzing of the regulator from the car body. In either case (rubber mounts or not), the regulator body must be grounded to the radiator support.

Re: voltage regulator mounting

Actually, 69 is a switched year. Early 69s (pre Nov or Dec) received the 68 style with rubber inserts (which need ground strap), later 69s just had the regulator screwed to the support (no ground strap necessary).

Boyd, what date does your trim tag have?
