quick (maybe stupid) question

on my 67, when the turn signal is on and i step on the brake shouldnt the non flashing tail light light up?

i just changed my std lenses to RS lenses and added a socket (reverse lights were not hooked up anyway)

the thing is, i cant remember if it was the same way before i added the inboard sockets.

normal other than that. running lights and blinkers work correctly.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

Yes it should light up. Do the brake lights work when the turn signal isn't on?

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

Maybe you accidently tapped into the back up light wires by mistake? Honest mistake.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

erik, brake lights work normal with the parking lights on or off. it is only when i use the turn signal that i have that problem.

charlie, it is not tapped into the back up lights.

the aftermarket socket has a black and white wire. the right side is green to white and the left is yellow to white both sides are brown to black. its pretty straight forward.
did i miss something?

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

Sounds like it might be a bad turn signal switch. Check for power on the wire opposite the side the T/S is on at the T/S switch. (turn on rt turn check green wire at sw with brake pedal depressed)

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

Are you using the 1156 or 1157 bulb.

The turn signal / brake light socket is a 3 wire socket.

The back up or brake light socket is a 2 wire socket.

I dont know if it the same on a 67. I am talking about a 69. Just a thought, maybe the wrong socket and you need the 3 wire socket for the 1157 bulb.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

they are 1157 bulbs. there are only 2 wires in the harness (other that reverse wires)
the yellow and green are t/s and brake and brown is running lights. ground it through the housing. if this is wrong please tell me.

I thought it needs to grounded in the trunks (trunk pan nearest tail lights)... I think on my 69 that the Dark Grey (passenger side) and the Yellow on the (driver side) are the turn signal leads. Did you try a test light, could be a bad bull.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

See if this helps. This is a 68 (RS clone) and I just relocated my backup lights. My tail lights/brakes/turn-signals seem to all agree with each other. I installed new sockets that came with white and black wires. Just did this over the weekend and haven't covered the wires up with harness tape.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

arrgg!!!! this brake light thing is driving me nuts.

does the brake light circuit run through the TS switch? so if my TS switch is bad the non flashing side may not lite up while turning? i went through everything with a test lite and get the same results.
i dont want to get ***-ended trying to turn off the hwy.

Re: quick (maybe stupid) question

Turn signal rule over stop lights. Use a heavy duty flasher, 552(?), as this flasher will flash without having a load, light bulbs, in place as with a 512 flasher.

Emergency flashers over rule all. And yes, stop light goes through ts switch.
