Coil wire u-shaped terminal

Does anyone know where I can purchase the original style u-shaped terminals that connects to the coil. These same terminals are also used at the horn relay. I am installing a new engine harness for HEI and the terminal is the connector that plugs into the distributor cap. I am using an original style distributor and coil so I need the u-shaped terminal.

Re: Coil wire u-shaped terminal

GM dealers, all of them, have a book with every terminal GM makes, not usually known by the cretin parts dweebs. That, and many other OEM terminals are listed in that book. I don't have the p/n here, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

I also remember that the terminal is side loaded, wore comes in from one side, and has a strain relief bend over tab as well as the crimp tab.

Milton

Re: Coil wire u-shaped terminal

The standard points coil wire is a resistor wire. You will want a resistor in the coil power wire somewhere. try searching to find out what kinds of resistors can be used. The HEI harness does not have a resistance.

Mat, my original distributor was converted to HEI and uses a coil. I don't need the resistor wire. But I do need the side terminal that attaches to the top of the coil.

Re: Coil wire u-shaped terminal

NAPA ICR-13 IS the correct porcelain ballast resistor for GM POINT ignition systems, 1.80 ohms.

The stock GM resistance wire is silver stranded, 7-1/2 FEET long, this also gives 1.80 ohms resistance.

Re: Coil wire u-shaped terminal

Struck out at the dealer today. I went to two different ones. My conclusion is the parts counter folks don't want to help you. They make money selling parts, not looking in books that takes time. They don't realize if they would just get me the books, I'd look through them. But both places said they don't have books.

I KNOW there are these parts books, and they are NOT on computers. Too bad you have very lazy parts people where you are.

I'll try to find you a part number for them tomorrow, might have a package here still from earlier projects.

Re: Coil wire u-shaped terminal

I still have not been able to find this terminal. I called AAW and was told to buy a new harness cause they wouldn't take down the crimper to pull a few terminals off the roll. Of course he wouldn't tell me what the terminals are called either. At this point I might consider buying a roll of terminals if I can find them, but I'm not going to buy a new harness from AAW.
