Wiper Motor Issues - Help Needed

Purchased a new wiper motor and washer pump for my 69. Wiper motor is acting very odd. It runs fine at low and high speeds but when I turn it to off it runs a complete revolution, pauses for a split second, and makes another revolution. Turn the ignition switch to off and back on and it continues the one revolution, pause a split second, and repeats. Does the same thing when I activate the washer pump, it seems to work fine. Could the switch be causing this? I know the switch acts as a ground but why the revolution pause then repeat? HELP!

Tim,
Just a thought........when you plugged the wiring connector(s) back on the wiper motor could you have "turned" or "flipped" the connector over? Here's a pic of how the connector should look..............

Re: Wiper Motor Issues - Help Needed

Another thing you can just barely see in David's pic is the ground strap that goes to the mounting screw. Make sure it's there, and it is clean enough to get good contact with the screw, sometimes they have a lot of paint on em. David's is nice clean shiny brass.

It sounds to me like the new motor is bad tho. The park switch is internal to the motor. It sounds like the switch is a lil "off" and the motor is coasting though it and getting powered up again. Do you have the wipers on and everything attached, that might load it enough to work.

Re: Wiper Motor Issues - Help Needed

It is wired just like David's pic ..... thanks for the pic!

Yes it does have the grounding strap and I made sure everything was cleaned off, even where it mounts to the cowl. I have the transmission arms connected but not the wiper arms. It went through the park process one time maybe two but that is it. I was worried it may be an internal problem. Just can't figure why the dang thing won't stop running the one revolution pause and repeat

Thanks guys!

Re: Wiper Motor Issues - Help Needed

I think the washer pump might cause the pause and repeat. In my achieves here somewhere I have a GM manual on wiper motors only. I worked mostly on the round motors not the square. A worn "spring" in the wheel for the washer will cause the round motor to keep running. Pull the plastic cover off and make sure if the washer pump is shut off.
