Q? About LED lights.....

I see that American Autowire sells LED OEM Style Replacement Bulbs...
http://www.americanautowire.com/cata...ng&Sockets.pdf

This seems like a cheap alternative to the expensive LED conversions kits.

ARe these bulbs any good? Do they put out good/bright light?
If so, why would anyone buy the expensive kits??

Do not use those, they will be no brighter than your current bulb. LED's are a directional light and there is not enough lights there to be worth buying those. You will be disappointed

Re: Q? About LED lights.....

I also was wondering about these....saw them on the selves the other day.
A note on the subject...NZ has strict specs bulbs must meet to even be sold
This includes brightness and direction of spread....so they have to be the same or exceed these specs.
Do they bulbs get hot..if so I was wondering as to the effect they may have on the plastic lens....and if so are modern car lenses the same plastic or a polycarb or something??

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Q? About LED lights.....

Standard incandescent bulbs get very hot and LED bulbs stay cool to the touch....
that is one of the big reasons to switch to LED (they also last very very long and use much less power).

So in answer to your question, standard incandescent bulbs will do much more damage (warping, etc) to
the plastic lenses than LED would.

Re: Q? About LED lights.....

If they are any thing like I tried 3 years ago in daylight you couldn't see them 5ft away in daylight, with brake lights on. STAY AWAY

Re: Q? About LED lights.....

I followed a group of 66 Mustangs to Springfield IL last year. One car that I seemed to be behind a lot had just round circles when he stepped on the brakes the rest of these cars lite up the whole lens. I asked about it, his answer, LED light bulbs. As for heat LED emit little to no heat. I think it might be worth it to get the expensive set up.

Re: Q? About LED lights.....

I put them in my 68. The Led inserts are easy to install. I actually used two kits because I have all four lenses red. I don't like the clear reverse lights on a 68. Rally sports had all four red tails. Firewheel classics has them. Also if you have trouble the company backs them 100% They are well worth the money. Also when you hit the brakes they flash before coming on. The signals look like police lights flashing. They are cool.

Thumbs up Re: Q? About LED lights.....

You get alot better results by getting the ones like musclerodz has advertised. You COULD get the single LED 1157 bulbs BUT you wouldn't get the results you are looking for. I also have ones like the ones shown and am very pleased with them. I have had mine about a year and half and get compliments about them quite a bit.

You also have to get the electronic flasher (replaces the flasher you already have in your fuse block). A conventional flasher is not compatible with the led lights.

If you decide to get them, Mike at Musclerodz has great customer service!

77thor, maybe Doug would sell his to you so you could both get what you want?
