I'm adding power door locks to my 69 and I need wiring to go through the door jams. What are you all using for a rubber boot type insulator/ protector for the wiring? I know you can get OEM ones from Rick's for $60, but I wonder if there is anything less expensive as I'm not doing a concourse resto.
Thanks,
John
Thanks John! How did you find that boot? I would like to find a few more so I could choose the best one.
Where are you at in N. Cal.? I grew up in the Bay Area.
Did anyone ever try those boots? Do they fit well? Reason I ask is that I need to run speaker wires to the doors and would like to have a nice looking boot to cover the wires.
So there are several ways to run wires, here is my attack for years:
I always put the wires in black heat shrink in the area of exposure.
Drill 3/8" holes in the dimple area of door and frame face.
Use rubber grommets placed in the 3/8" holes to protect wires.
Buy your grommets first and then determine the size holes you need to drill. A grommet that fits in a 3/8" hole generally has a 1/4" opening.
Since these wires are flexed during opening/closing, make sure the wire of choice is fine/stranded copper wire of sufficient guage to obtain long life service-ability.
Hope this helps
