just did CS130 Alternator upgrade, now factory tach having fits

happen to anyone else? MSD6AL ignition hooked up to factory tach with no problems for past 2 years then i upgrade alternator (works great by the way) but now tach is bouncing all over, reading incorrectly, and still functions after unplugging the tach wire out of the msd box.

The last time I had a jumpy tach, it wound up that I had bumped the connection while working on something else. I went back and soldered the tach signal line and it fixed it.

Check the connection as mentioned above, if that doesn't take care of it use a DVOM and measure AC voltage output in the charging system. A bad rectifier bridge can allow AC voltage to leak into the system, giving you a small offset that wreaks havoc with modern electronics.

thanks guys, turns out it was the new but bad alternator.........drained battery, swapped it out and all my electrical woes are gone.
