Adding a new Pertronix coil ?

Upgrading to a new high performance coil. Should the distributor also be upgraded at the same time ?

Re: Adding a new Pertronix coil ?

Doesn't need to be. But upgrading is upgrading. You could upgrade the dizzy at the same time.

However, make sure you read the directions, some coils or distributors need another resistor.

Re: Adding a new Pertronix coil ?

You do not want to add a Pertronix Flame-thrower coil to your stock points type ignition system. If you also add the Pertronix distributor (with Ignitor II or III) you are OK.

As mentioned, read the directions, the Pertronix setup wants full 12V and eliminates the ballast resistor or resistance wire.
