Power Starter Wiring

Hi All,

I have a 69 RS/SS 454 with a cheap $64.00 mini starter and I replaced it with a new PowerMaster Starter.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWM-3510/?image=large

The mini starter had only 2 connections, 12-volt battery and a spade connecter.

The PowerMaster has your traditional 3 connections and of course after consulting with summit and installing the starter, the car does not start.

What do I need, run another cable to where?

Thanks in advance

Re: Power Starter Wiring

Doesn't start, or doesn't crank?

How many wires do you have down there?

You should only have 2. You know where the big battery cable goes, and the 12 guage purple wire goes to the small stud closest to the block.

Re: Power Starter Wiring

Hi Jim,

Yes I only have 2 wires and yes it does not crank. LOL, I know where the Big Battery cable goes. I placed the purple wire on the small stud furthest from the blcok, I will try the other side tommorow.

Thanks
Jeff

Re: Power Starter Wiring

OK, I placed the puple wire on the small terminal closest to the engine block and when I turn my key, the solenoid winds but the flywheel does not turn over, so now what?

Thanks again.

Re: Power Starter Wiring

To figure out which of the solenoid wires is your crank wire, take a resistance measurement from each of them to the shell. The solenoid terminal will show resistance and the other terminal will show open. If they're both open, you have a bad solenoid. You can also measure resistance of the motor power terminal to the shell and you should see resistance. In both cases, the resistance will be fairly low, though the motor resistance will be very low.
