HEI on an old car

IF I put HEI in this old El Camino, can i run 12 volts into the HEI distributor? Is is stepped down internally, to around 10 volts?

It needs 12 volts+.

68 Dana 302, 68 rs 327 daily driver/family car, 71 rs, track car/ driver, 68 firebird 400, 70 formula 400, 73 type LT, 98 TA, 2 goofy kids and an incredible wife.

Just by pass the ballast ign wire as described in many old posts.
