68 underdash wiring questions with photos!

Took apart under the dash tonight and have some wiring questions.
First there is this harness. I assume this mounted in the console originally?? I ID'd some of the wires. I think the orange/white is a courtesy light on the pass side? One thin gray goes to a bulb, i assume a console light. Does the other too?

Next we have a mystery harness that went from the fuse box to nowhere. Any idea? Definately looks old (minus the replacement blue connectors). Possibly a factory option??

Whats the spring thing with the brown cut wires??

Re: 68 underdash wiring questions with photos!

Are all orange/white pairs courtesy lights? Not sure where this plugs into
The plug that goes into the back of the standard instrument panel had the pink wire cut and the stub spliced off to nowhere. Anyone know what the pink wire goes to?? Easy enough to splice back but trying to figure out why/what they were doing here.

What wire goes to the back of the cig lighter?? Could that be my mystery harness from above???
Also the ignition switch has a thin brown/white striped wire that comes out the same place as the thick brown. It was cut and goes nowhere. Any ideas?

I will answer what I can:

The orange/white wires are courtesy lights.

The spring thing is the switch on the ebrake that will turn the dash light on when the parking brake is engaged.

And from memory I think the pink is gas gauge...

i was hoping it was the gas gauge. The guy before me gave me a brand new tank sender assy when i bought the car, told me the gage didnt work! Would be great to just splice that wire and fix it rather then drop the tank! Maybe they had an aftermarket gage at some point?

1st picture, bulbs are for the automatic shift plate illumination.
Mystery harness looks like a console clock harness

Good call on the console clock! It did come with the bezel holder for that clock but no clock. Instead they had a vac gage in there. Cool! thanks

Hello

I think the Brown/White is a "Resistor"-wire which goes to the Voltage-regulator (and if equipped, to the charging indicator light)

Re: 68 underdash wiring questions with photos!

Brown white wire is associated with the charge wire that is fed through the GEN lamp. The GEN lamp is fed from IGN power, but the brown/wh bypasses the lamp with ACC power through the resistance wire if I recall. I believe it's a back up to keep the alternator energized if the GEN lamp burns out.

Re: 68 underdash wiring questions with photos!

The brown/white wire is a resistor wire for your alterator warning light. I bet your car no longer has an external regulator mounted on the drivers side core support on the engine bay side or the wire harness is disconnected to bypass it. When you convert to a modern alternator (CS-130) with an internal regulator with a 3 wire set up this wire will need to be cut to equalize the volts on each side of the warning bulb to turn on the alternator and to keep the light from glowing during alternator operation.
