Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Hey guys. I don't have the idiot oil pressure switch for this light so I cannot figure why it flickers on at all? Nothing comes on when I turn the key.

Some times it flashes while I am running but oil pressure on the gauge is fine.

Thanks in advance.

If the wire gets grounded the light will light.

Now the million dollar question, what color wire? Where is it?

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Thanks Everett.

I put some fuse box photos on my link. 3 wires hanging, no clue what they are. All are brownish...

Maybe one goes to the ebrake? All three "hangers" have black tape on the ends.

Found the green/blue one but it has a rubber connector so not sure how it could be grounding. Maybe break somewhere. If you have guages, what turns this on?

THANK YOU!!

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

In 10091, I believe the right brown wire would go to the e-brake and plug in from the bottom of the switch, the item with the spring wrapped around it. I do see the e-brake is missing the right angle flap to push down on the switch to turn off the BRAKE light.

The left brown wire could be for the left door dome light switch.
I don't see a third wire. Could it be the one wire in 10088? I have no clue.
Is the connector in the background for the body harness going to the rear of the car?
If it is the body harness connector, the one row has three wires(?) and their color?
Bottom row wire color?

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Added more photos. The fat brown wire in 100 appears to go with the orange and yellow up by the speedo.

The rest are better pics of the connector which appears to go up to fuse box but its impossible to tell since they all are rolled togetther. In either case, the two small brown wires by the connector are separate from the fat brown.

In 96 you can see all three hanging down.

I really appreciate your help.

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

The one brown - could be tan? - from the harness might be an old gas gauge wire from the back of the car as I see a brown wire outside of the harness tape.

The large brown wire may be for A/C? Or power top switch?
Do you have a circuit breaker box, black, on the firewall next to the fusebox?

Does all the accessories work?
Does all the rear end lights and gas gauge of the car work?

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Gas gauge works.
No ac. I don't think the car ever had it.
Yes power top and it works.
I have a (power top?) breaker box on the fire wall (engine side) behind the brake cylinder. But nothing next to the fuse box.
Rear end lights and gauges all work.

I know one wire has 12 volts to it. So I assume this baby goes to the old e brake. Not sure where to find that piece I am missing to hold the switch down. Tuffy.

Also I did run a new direct wire from my MSD 6AL for the Tach. So no tach wire is being used. The tach was not hooked up when I got the car.

Everything works but:

Oil light flickers on and off while driving
My blinkers go fast and slow (some one posted may be indicative of a short)
No ignition buzzer when I put the key in. All else seems OK

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

The one wire with 12 volts, I would think, goes to the e-brake switch.
You might ground it for a second to see if the BRAKE light does come on. Be quick.
Oil light , my mistake, is a dark blue wire and would be by the distributor originally and ran over to the firewall connector.
Blinkers could be the flasher itself. As long as all the turn signal bulbs work when requested, then I suggest to change the flasher for a trailer/heavy duty flasher, P/N 552(?). The light duty flasher depends upon current drawn to open/close, meaning bulb wattage. The hd flasher is timed, does not care about current drawn.
Ignition buzzer, you may want to leave off. But, check, I want to say, pink wire to the horn relay. Could be the dark blue wire. Check Electrical sticky.

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Everette, you are the camaro electrical god.

The flasher replacement worked great with the Electrical version versus Thermal.

Still need to find the oil light short. Once the oil wire comes through the fire wall, is it still dark blue? Eg does it go through the fuse box and is recolored. Where does it come out? I need to find it under the dash since engine side checked OK.

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

You're welcome. Oil light - engine side - dark blue from pass side firewall connector. Interior side harness - dark blue with white tracer to cluster connector. Pink wire for power to inst cluster.

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off while driving

Thanks Everett. I tore up the whole dash today. Unbundled every wire.

Blue with white tracer was hanging on the inside, neither end connected. Which means its not a cause of the oil light flashing on and off. If you could tell me which # plug the oil light goes on the cluster connector now that I have put it wired through the fire wall, it would be a great help. I will put a new oil sensor in the front of the engine.

Another solid DK blue wire(s) on the inside has a double plug coming off the fuse box. One Dk blue to the cluster connector. The other went to emergency flasher which I find is non functional. Also no buzzer. (Did not know these had buzzers until recently)

I think I can figure it out if I had a diagram of the cluster connector.

Most of the problem appears to be that the prior owner swapped the original stock Gas gauge cluster for the tic toc tach but left alot undone.

Also yellow wire on cluster connector #8 position. Is this low fuel? Could it make the oil light come on if the fuel sender is faulty (guage appears to be fine)

Thanks so much.

Found. PO wired the oil light to the low gas warning light.
