89 Iroc Gas gauge won't go below Half?

While I was driving down the highway after I had filled up and ready for a 4 hour trip through Oklahoma I noticed after driving about 300 miles that my gas gauge wasn't below half. I was coming up on the gas station that I always stop for gas but my gauge showed half a tank of gas. So I filled up anyway and looked at my gauge and it read correctly at full. I haven't driven far enough since then to get down to half but it is currently sitting on 3/4. But I think I'm developing a gas gauge problem. Anyone ever experience a gas gauge not going below Half?

Maybe a slap on the dash to jar it loose?

When you think you may be a t 1/4 tank, unplug the tank connector and measure the ohms to ground for the gauge, tan wire? Should be around 20-30 ohms. Approximately 45 ohms is approx half tank, 90 ohms is full.
