68 Water temp gauge - where at rest

I got a new temp gauge from Rick's (Ecklers). When it showed up the needle was on the other side of the "stop posts". I bent down the stop posts to get the needle between them.

When I turn the car off - the needle "rests" (move up to) the orange high side. I'm curios if anyone with the gauges can tell me when their car is off - where does the needle go when NOT in use. My fear is the needle was put on wrong, therefore the gauge will not read accurate.

PS: to my last post, it was a bad gauge. yeah!
