Fuel Sender Ground

My fuel sender seems to be reading correctly, but the ground wire is hanging down between the tank and the rear end housing.. Guess it is picking up a ground through the body..

The wire seems short and no place to really ground it.. I looked in AIM but it's not a real good pic.. Anybody know or got a pic of where the ground wire was originally connected on a 67 for the fuel sending unit?

Thanks

Re: Fuel Sender Ground

The ground wire gets attached to the front of the pass side bracket for the passenger tank strap.
You might see a little hole for the short sheet metal screw when one was installed. Wire brush the area and terminal when attaching the lead.

You might measure the lead to ground to see if it is grounded by the sending unit, shouldn't be cause the unit along with the tank is isolated. Tank may have been dropped once and the cloth strips may have been left out.

Re: Fuel Sender Ground

I'll measure the lead to ground this weekend and see if it is grounded by the sending unit. I did drop the tank out during the restore, but thought I had put the cloth strips back in.. If they aren't back in what other issues will this potentially cause? Hate to drop the tank again, but want it to be safe too.. I'll hook up the ground wire correctly also..

Re: Fuel Sender Ground

And you may have installed the strips. Strips are provided to 'cushion' the tank, prevent squeaking.

There may be the possibilty of a section of the tank may be touching the body. The s/unit is held in place by a large 'nut' and it has completed the ground circuit from the s/unit to the tank.
