Trouble with windshield wipers (95 G20 VAN)

There are alot of Great Mechanics here, so I thought I'd take my chances by tossing it out.

I have a 1995 Chevy G20 van thats driving me nuts! Window wipers worked intermittently, then stopped altogether. Need help troubleshooting!!

Re: Trouble with windshield wipers (95 G20 VAN)

I dont know if a 95 van is the same as the 91 chevy truck but I had the same problem. There was a little black box on the wiper motor that controls the wipers. You could go out and hit it and the wipers would start working. It seemed to always do it when it rained. Duh

I ended up replacing the wiper motor.

It has a control board inside that gets corroded. Might try removing the pc card and clean with contact cleaner. Also clean the terminals with a eraser.

Circuit board on the wiper motor itself is usually the problem.. 10 times out of ten!! Easy to replace and cheaper then the motor!

Had to replace similar piece on a 97 CK 1500 pick up recently. Autozone carries this; Dorman / Wiper Motor Pulse Board Module

There was a recall on that wiper control board. Ebay has them for $10 all day long. Didn't have the dealership do my '97 S10 and wound up having to do it myself when the wipers started getting flaky. Very easy to do.

Where exactly is this board located at? The repair manuals that I have aren't very specific about its location

Don't know about a van, but on my S10 it's on the driver's side under the cowl on the firewall. Just to the left of the brake booster looking from the front. It should be four screws to remove the cover.

Re: Trouble with windshield wipers (95 G20 VAN)

I had a very hard time trying to find the module and gave up. The wipers worked intermittently for a while, but now they are completly dead. This board has to come out. From this internet photo, can anyone guild me as to where to look for it?

Re: Trouble with windshield wipers (95 G20 VAN)

It should be on the wiper motor. Like posted above it has a black cover on it and remove the 4 screws. You should see the board.

First find the wiper motor and try tapping on it to see if they will come on.

Re: Trouble with windshield wipers (95 G20 VAN)

I FINALLY got around to taking this blasted thing out. It is mounted on the inner firewall right behind the heater/fan controls. (Man this thing was a &*^%$ to get out, and even harder to get back in).

Anyway, instead of trying to replace just the board, I decided to replace everything (Motor, board, and pump).

I honestly hope that for as long as I own this van, that this thing NEVER goes bad again.... EVER!
