Beginner's help with electrical issue

Ok...so i have an 88 camaro v8. Just a few minutes ago while inserting a charger for my GPS, my radio, cigarette lighter, trunk, and locks seemingly stopped working. Is it possible that my wires are corroding or is there another reason? I'd like to have some idea before I take it to a mechanic and he/she tries to rip me. I can say that before this issue occured, my radio would turn off and on randomly...but then go back to normal for days.

Re: Beginner's help with electrical issue

First, did you check your fuse box? Check to see if the fuse is blown, or loose, make sure the connections are tight and not corroded. Your radio problem could be a loose wire or a chafed wire. Next make sure all the grounds are good this is one of the main problems with older cars.

Re: Beginner's help with electrical issue

if you don't stick the charger STRAIGHT into the lighter it's possible to contact power & ground and blow the fuse

Sometimes it's better to let someone think your an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt...
