Re: High beam head lights not working

My 67 did the same thing. It was the carpet getting caught in the dimmer switch. Little frays were caught in the button. It allowed the red light to come on but the not the headlights. Didnt matter how many times stepped on it.

Re: High beam head lights not working

Check to see if the high beam filaments are burned out with an Ohm meter, and check for 12VDC at the connector.

Then come back to the dimmer switch if there's no 12V.

Re: High beam head lights not working

It's almost always the floor switch or connection at the switch. The floor gets rusty/dirty in that area. And the switches don't cost much.

Make sure the connector on the dimmer switch is melted and had a bad or loose connection.

Re: High beam head lights not working

But are the high beams burned out and do you have voltage at their terminals?

Re: High beam head lights not working

You just have to go through a logical progression to find the problem or problems. Using a tool like a volt meter or test light for this problem can be used to find out the problem(s).
If the low beams work and the high beam indicator light works it could be the bulbs but both quitting at the same time would be a slim chance and if I had to take a guess, I might think you lost a connection between the two halves of the bulkhead connector. I would think the indicator light is either getting power down at the floor dimmer switch or somewhere between the switch and the backside of the bulkhead connector.

Re: High beam head lights not working

Found the problem the connector plug for the lighting to the firewall was not in all the way, I pushed in on it and the high beams came on, I pulled the connector off and found it had 2 prongs bent over. Straightened them out it works now but found a lot of splices, I think I going to order a new lighting harness to avoid future problems. Thanks for the help
