Autometer wiring question

My question is concerning the the ground for the gauge and the light. Can I wire the black wire of the gauge light to the ground connector on the gauge?

If not, can someone explain why? It seems like ground is ground but I dont want to fry my new gauges.

Thanks
Jason

Re: autometer wiring question

Yes you can,,but they have to go to a ground also. I usually put them both in a ring terminal and hook to one of the 2 mounting screws on the back on the guage. Then run a ground from the same lug to a ground under the dash.

Re: Autometer wiring question

I have a set of 4 in my console and wired all 4 together and ran a single wire out to an engine ground. Just a little different twist.
