Speedo only goes up to 45

I don't drive too fast, but will go over 45 on occasion. why would a speedomoter go to 45 and not any higher? I think these are the original guages. (car is a '69 S.S.)

Check to make sure the orange needle isn't hitting the screws on the faceplate.

how do I begin to diagnose this problem. does the glass come off from the front so I can access the needle?
