67 Camaro won't start

OK, I checked the neutral safety switch (bypassed it and got 12v to the end of the purple wire that connects to the starter ), that verifies the ignition switch too right? I jumped across the 12v#6 at the starter to the small connector on the solenoid and it kicked right over. ( I put a jumper from the battery too and it also kicked right over? ) Changed the solenoid just to be sure, why does the starter work with the 12v from the battery in two different directions but not from the 12v coming from the purple wire where it should work? totally frustrated now...

Re: 67 camaro wont start

It could be a poor connection along the length of the purple wire including the ign switch.
With no load on the ire, you will see battery voltage.
Put a load on to the wire and if a bad connection, it can't handle the current draw and volts go down.
Start at the ign switch power input measuring volts to ground in START position, the point where you find a voltage drop is the problem area.

Re: 67 camaro wont start

Thanks Everett! I did exactly what you described and found loose connections at the harness connector on the engine side of the firewall and the harness connector behind the radio. pushed them both together and worked fine, fired right up... of course I also bought a new Neutral safety switch from a local HB parts distributor, spent two hours trying to get the stupid screws in ( really tight ), only to find the thing in 3 pieces when I attempted to do the final tighten and adjustment.. what POS... so I am still having issues, but now with poor quality NEW parts... what a pain,,,,
