Fuel sender shorted

just ainstalled a new fuel tank and sending unit. added 10 gallons of gas and gauge reads empty. its an aftermarket sending unit. the gauge was working finebefore i change the sending unit. (tank was leaking) now the sender reads a .7 ohms form brown wire to its ground. any ide3as?

I'f you're sure you didn't pinch a wire, and it is <1 ohm with the sender wire unattached to the harness taht runs to the gauge, my guess would be that the float arm is jammed/torqed/stuck.

Not what you want to hear, but if you read ~0 ohms at the sender unit end wire, with the harness disconnected, you have to pull the tank and take out the sender to analyze.

unfortuantely your correct. i may try to see if the float is visible, just to see the position. gotta love aftermarket parts.

It appears float is stuck in the down position or sunk. I can see it thru the opening and it is not floating.

The first new sender I installed, the $49 repro unit from Rick's, did the same thing (arm stuck down). It could not be fixed, and I bought the $99 replacement from Spectra, which worked fine.

So, if you bought the cheap unit, you're probably out of luck...

i was afraid of that. that is the one i bought and place i bought it from.
