Funky Voltage Gauge

Here's one for you. Today my alt went up so I replaced it. Now my gauge won't read battery voltage. It reads charging voltage, but not battery voltage. I have a relay in the system becaue of the way my gauge is wired. I replaced the relay and still no battery voltage. What do you guys think? I get 14.7 at the alt post and 14.7 at the gauge wire, but I get 12.5 at the batt pos term, the junction block and the buss bar. The horn relay/buss bar is new. All these issues started when the alt went out this morning.

Re: Funky Voltage Gauge

Sounds like the alternator isn't grounded good. Measure between the alternator shell and the battery (-). Should be a very small voltage - nearly zero. I'll be you'll find your 14.7v there.

Re: Funky Voltage Gauge

I found it. The feed wire from the main harness to the alt has separated. All is good now. Thanks.
