Anyone any good with shorts?? The fuse keeps blowing for my courtesy lights. Not sure what else is on that circuit?? Lighter maybe?? As soon as power goes to the overhead dome light, the fuse POPS. I tried with the doors closed and same thing. Thanks.

Clock, lighter, glove box light, console courtesy light, dome light, under dash courtesy lights. The switches (door jamb and twist knob on the headlight switch) are in the ground side. Good luck!

Re: Courtesy light SHORT on my X66

Yeah, good luck. You've heard of 'flat rate' repair, right? Well, there is no flat rate for shorts. It can take a very long time to find a short, with lots of disassembly.
Just be happy you don't have a short like mine last year. The NHRA required battery trunk switch saved my car. This was caused by the radiator bulkhead, plus 40 years of rubbing.

I don't have a glove box light or under dash lights?? HMMM Its all starting to make sense now. Can anyone guide me in the right direction for the underdash connection. I will start there.

The glovebox lights and under dash lights were optional, but would have been on the same circuit. All of the hot wires in the circuit should be orange.

Re: Courtesy light SHORT on my X66

Thanks Al, I have found the glovebox lead under the dash. I will continue from here. I removed the dome light housing and only the bulb from the console light and still the same thing. Has to be the door jamb switches?? I have no lighter. What else could be left?? The clock ??

Re: Courtesy light SHORT on my X66

The door jamb switches are on the ground wire. If they (or one) were faulty I'd think you'd just get no dome lights, but not blowing a fuse.. It sounds to me like you have a hot going to ground somewhere. The most complicated piece in that circuit is the headlight switch. I'd try unplugging the connector from the back side of it to take it out of the loop, and see what you get.

Re: Courtesy light SHORT on my X66

Have you checked to be sure you have the right bulb in your courtesy lights. The courtesy light bulb should be two contacts. If you put a single contact bulb in that socket you could be shorting out that circuit.

Re: Courtesy light SHORT on my X66

Yes 69 Al. I only have two lights. The dome light and the console light (rear), I removed them both.
