CS 130 issue....

I installed the CS 130 105A and its not charging. I revd the motor , still nothing.
Took alt. to store and checked fine.
Reinstalled still noting.
Used a test light as alt. light and still still nothing.
Pulling hair out looking at Volt Reg and Horn relay.
I did the wire cut and tie like in the sticky.

What am I missing ????

Re: CS 130 issue....

OK... heres what I know so far...

Pulled Volt Reg off rad support. no wires connected, why bother to cut the center 2 wires and tie the outside 2 together ?

OR I did something wrong

Re: CS 130 issue....

Wire Alt Output and Sensor to the Horn Relay Accessory Bus Bar (NOT the "+" Terminal of the Battery as it will mess up your Mini Volt Alt Gauge) and the "L" or Brown Wire goes to the Idiot Lite and if none a 35 Ohm resistor.

If you keep the Old Regulator Wires I believe your Join Blue with Brown and Yellow with Orange.

Re: CS 130 issue....

The plug on the new alternator should be marked S F L P. "S" wire should go to the junction point with the most load, usually the bussbar on the horn relay if stock. "F" is not used. "L" gets connected to the GEN light which is terminal 4 on the regulator harness (brown wire on above drawing). "P" is not used. If the original blue and white wires are still at the alternator make a short jumper wire with a 1/4" male push-on crimp connector on both ends. Put one end in terminal 1 and the other end in terminal 4 of the regulator plug (brown and blue in above drawing). Connect the blue wire from original alternator plug to the "L" terminal on the new alternator. Make another short jumper wire with a 1/4" male push-on crimp on one end and a fork crimp on the other end. Plug the push-on end into terminal 2 on the regulator plug (yellow in above drawing). Connect the fork end to the bussbar on the horn relay. Now connect the white wire from original alternator plug to the "S" terminal on the new alternator.

What contradiction to do you see Doug? Looks the same to me other than the color of the center two wires. I think the tech ref schematic may have had to make do with a limited color palate.

The CS-130 wiring is a bit differernt, but the 12SI schematic is in line with what you need. The only differerence really is the plug on the side. My 'L' wire coming from the CS-130 connector is brown. So that would correspond with the blue wire in your OEM harness as I read it. The red wire from the side terminal connector can be connected to the big lug on the back, but I ran mine to the horn relay for remote sensing. Remote sensing off the horn relay will improve the system voltage regulation.

Disconnect the connector on the side and probe the 'L' wire (brown on the connector and blue to the harness) with the key turned on (engine off). See if you have battery voltage there. Better yet, use a test lamp and see that the GEN lamp glows dimly. I'd suggest just grounding the 'L' wire looking for a bright GEN lamp, but if it isn't wired properly, that could be a desasterous test. The test lamp will protect you from a short circuit.

If that checks out, don't overlook the possibility of a bad ground to the alternator case. Hook everything back up, start the engine and measure the voltage between the alternator shell and the battery (-). You should see a very small voltage (less than 0.05V or so) if the ground is good.

Re: CS 130 issue....

Glad you got it going again Doug. What did you find out - was it a wiring mistake at the regulator end?

You see the volt reg in the pic and then the wires in the other

Well I did the cut and tie at the regulator... not the harness side
