67 RS headlight motor help

i had new aftermarket headlight motors installed on my 67 while it was in the body shop. after i got it home i replaced all the relays and circuit breaker also. the driverside headlight door will open up but not close. the passengerside door is too loose on the motor and just swings around on it's own. i tried to tighten the nut that connects it to the motor shaft but the whole motor starts to turn. do i need to hold the washers on the shaft to help hold the motor from turning? i don't won't to mess up the motor. i have the plastic shims to tighten up the pivot arm just trying not to damage the motor. the motor is also not working but i will look at it after i get the door tension set. car did not have motors on it when i bought it. all the limit switches appear to be present.

thanks
gerald

Re: 67 rs headlight motor help

Gerald I would call the body shop that installed then. You paid them to do the job and it sounds like they screwed up. On the shaft there should be a D hole washer next to the motor, friction washers on both sides of the arm, a spring washer then the nut.

Re: 67 rs headlight motor help

which motors did they install out of Curiosity ( Retro fit) ?

Sounds as though it may need another washer behind the nut. Could be the nut has bottomed out before it has had a chance to add tension. You do not want to much tension however. Snug it up with fingers and give it an 1/8th turn more.

The retro fit motors are double nutted so you can adjust the tension if these happen to be them?

Re: 67 RS headlight motor help

retro fit motors. the nut feels tight and i only see one nut. i will try to look at it tomorrow. the shop took 3 weeks to install the radiator support. i do not want to leave it up there again that long. i work on old cars alot and can do the work myself, i was just curious about that nut. never worked on the electric motors before. guess i have been too busy working on the vette and ignoring the camaro.
