Wiring harness mystery.......

I recently bought a wiring harness from a person locally, who claims it is from a 69 big block, manual trans, console gauge car. Is there a quick way to tell which harness I really got before I go thru the trouble of installing it? I got a great deal on it, but have recently discovered that this guy is "Less than relilable"

Thanks

Re: Wiring harness mystery.......

John, yes there are ways. Small block and big block harnesses are the same, but manuals and autos are different. And console gauges are different.

1st. Find the large purple and puple w/white stripe wires. They are the starter safety wires. For autos with console to go to the console pigtail. For manuals, they go to the clutch switch under the dash (I have to check plug type).

2. Tach cars have a small 2 wire plug, non gauge had a large 3 wire for the fuel gauge cluster.

3. gauge cars had a different set of wires in the console plug. Check the wire colors against the chart.

If you are having trouble take some pics of the console plug, cluster plug and purple wire plug and I can figure it out.
