New ignition/ Factory Tach Reads WAY to high

I just installed a new ignition system (Mallory 6al, E-coil, Dist). I am positive that it is hooked up correctly. The car runs great but the original factory tach is not working correctly. At idle it is fine... but as the engine spins up, the tack gains RPMs way too fast. In 5th gear at 70mph at around 2000 RPM, it reads 3000RPM.. Its way out of proportion with what is really going on with the engine. The needle is very steady though.
I called Mallory.. The tech guy was stumped.. He said that most people have the opposite issue... which was confirmed my searches on this site..
Has anyone else had this problem... and is there a fix...??

Thanks,

Kip

Did the Mallory guy mention the filter(s) and/or second wire option for connecting the tach? I thought I read that in their instructions somewhere?
