Which Battery

Hi TC,

My battery just died on me. I took my '69 out for a 20 minute spin. I turned off the engine for about 15 min. Then car couldn't start...good thing I was only in the neighborhood. I charged my battery up for about 5 min and car started right up. It must be the battery right? Which battery do you guys recommend? I would like to stay original or close to it.

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Re: Which Battery

Look at the cranking amps of the battery you have now.....replace with same.......as far as manufacturer price can vary +/- $100 .....I just bought a Die hard from Sears just under $100 with 650 cranking amps....There are reproductions of the Delco but expensive....

Good luck.......Also have your battery checked to be sure it is the problem.....

.....
....or you could buy what is known as a battery "topper".....it sits on top of the later style battery and mimics the appearance of a AC Delco battery from the late '60's.

Re: Which Battery

Be sure to check charging voltage at the battery posts as well as the connections.
If voltage regulator set too low, battery may not have gotten its full recharge with a short 20 minute run.

Re: Which Battery

Thanks guys for your responses. I was thinking about one of those toppers. I measured about 14v across battery when car was running. I haven't replaced the battery since getting the car back in '05...gives me an excuse of getting a new one.

Aloha, Paul

Make it a MT-78DT = dual terminal - side & top. Only battery model I have on my vehicles.

Re: Which Battery

I ended up getting another AC Delco 700CA. It seems to work great about the same demensions from the previous which was I believe 525CA. I do notice a trouble with my key buzzer that sounds with the key removed. I noticed it the same time my battery went dead. I wonder if this has something to do with my battery going dead.

I'll open another post "key buzzer".

Thanks, Paul.
