68 - 327 Trunk Wires

In my truck coming off of the rear plate light there is a connector and wire (see attached). It's not connected (cut) and I don't know what it is? Can someone educate me on this?

Thanks,
Ramien

Ramien the tan wire is normally the fuel gauge sending unit wire and the black is the license plate light.

Agree with Roger, the cut wire should be the license plate light. Trunk light for 68 convertible would hook up there also. 68 coupe trunk light connects to the orange wire under package tray on drivers side.

Hmmm... My '68 wiring harness shows a brown wire powering the tail lights (running), corner lights, and license plate. Tan to fuel sensor. Light green reverse lights. Dark green right turn/brake light. I wonder if the black wire is really a ground wire.?.? What is the color of the wire on the opposite side of the connector?

Re: 68 - 327 Trunk Wires

I think for mine both are black wires. The black ground is visible in the picture. I checked the license plate light on the underside and noticed a cut black wire. So it seems someone cut the black power wire to the plate light and that's what I'm seeing.
