Lower Valance Lights

I am in the last stages of wiring up the car. I would like nothing more than to have the lower valance lights come on as the parking lights w/ the side marker lights.
I believe the valance lights were just for the blinkers, correct??

Has anyone retro-fitted an 1157 bulb to these lights so they will stay on with the parking lights (Low-Beam) and also blink on the high beam side of the bulb?
Seems I can run the parking light wire as well as the blinker wire to this light. Seems the biggest problem would be adding the headlight style connector to these lower valance lights!!

Thanks for any help on this!!

Re: Lower Valance Lights

'69 lower valence lights come on with parking lights and headlights, and they function as a turn signal. No additional wiring needed.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

The valance lights are not just blinkers and they stay on anytime your light switch is pulled. They do that already.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

You guys are both on the same page it seems. My issue is that I have seperate wires for the running lights (Brown) and seperate lights for the blinkers (Blue & light blue). They do not tie together. Confused, please clarify for me guys!!

Re: Lower Valance Lights

There are separate pigtails for the parking\turn lights on the harness that runs along the radiator support.
I believe they run through grommets\holes in either the fenders or wheel tubs (can't remember which) and the valance light pigtails will plug into them.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

Thanks Joe, The car has an aftermarket harness from painless, maybe that's why I'm having issues finding the right way to do this. No pigtails!!

Re: Lower Valance Lights

ANYONE?? There is only one pigtail for these valance lights. a ground & a power. How can this single pigtail connector function as a running light as well as a blinker?? Please explain!! thank you.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

I don't believe one wire would power both functions. I am not familiar with Painless wiring (aparantly it isn't) and I suggest you contact them.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

There are only 2 wires and the ground comes from the body. One of the wires you suspect to be the ground is likely the running light. The wiring diagram I'm looking at says it's a brown wire.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

There should be two wires going to each valance light. Neither is a ground. The driver's side should have a brown (prk light) and a light blue (turn). The pass side should have a brown (park) and a dark blue (turn). The socket uses a chassis ground.

Re: Lower Valance Lights

Robert & Al, You guys may have hit this right on the head!! I do have the brown wire as the running lights and a blue wire for the turn signal. I will check to see if both wires hooked up to the valance light works properly.
Thank you guys very much for the schooling!!!

Merry Christmas....

Re: Lower Valance Lights

The painless wiring harness has a light blue and dark blue wire which is your blinker wires. The brown is the running lights. One filement is brighter than the other on the bulbs. Make sure they are connected to the correct color wires.
