Strange fuel gauge wiring question...Need advice

I just hooked up the factory fuel gauge to the fuel cell in my 69...Everything works fine...simply ran the factory wire in the trunk to the sending unit on top of the tank without issue...Just for kicks, wanted to see if any current was getting to the sending unit with the power off so I hooked up a test light (just an unused light from an autometer gauge) and the light actually came on, not very bright, but it came on...Just curious to know why power is getting there with the ignition off...The fuel level doesn't move with ignition on or off...Thanks

Re: Strange fuel gauge wiring question...Need advice

It shouldn't be. You either have a wiring problem, or a shorted ignition switch or something.

Pull the guage fuse from the fuse box and see if the light goes out. If so you need to trace why you have power on that circuit with key off.
