67 rs headlight doors with light amplifer relays

Hi serious electrical gurus!

I have a problem concerning the 67 headlamp door system.

I have previously installed two relays to run the hi and low beams directly from the battery. The original in dash light switch only has to power these relays when the light are on. The idea is to ease the current flow through the original light switch and have brighter headlights by allowing them to get juice directly from the main feed.

Headlights worked light a charm, (I had to manually open the headlight doors since there was no motors/relays/wiring for the electrical door system), until I installed new RS motors and relays and the complete wiring.

Now with the relays in place I can get the lights on and doors open. BUT they wont close with the relays in place no matter what. If I jump the relays (let the original wiring feed the headlamps directly) the doors and lights works like they should.

What's causing this? Do I need to add another diode before the relay "trigger feed" if I want to run the amplifiers with the complete RS door system??

BTW I got the Retro Electro motors years a go and only had time to install them now. Mean motors, the doors fly open and close!!

Thanks already!!

Not quite the same scenario, but close.

Your motor control may need to sense significant current draw to operate; I am not familiar with your brand. You may need a power resister to simulate load.

I retrofitted the DSE system in mine, I use headlight relays, and everything works fine. DSE does not require current draw to operate, but you can't read that anywhere. Experimentation I did.

Best I can offer, if you want to send me a schematic and mark up how it is wired now, I'll try to suggest a solution(s).

Here is the stock RS wiring digram:

I reconstructed the system exactly per this digram and used the correct AC delco relays. The wiring diagram for the headlights is here and is in bone stock form in the car also:

The only modification made is the two relays that get their feed from the main feed(battery / alternator wire) and I use the original headlamp cabling only to operate these relays. There is one relay to operate high beams and one to operate low beams.
Here is a exactly similar setup:

Hope this helped you out to figure out what I meant.

Thanks!

Ok, the extra relay provides a grounding path when the lights are turned off.

Million thanks for the great diagram!
